  • Obtaining and/or reviewing separately obtained history
  • Performing a medically appropriate examination and/or evaluation
  • Counseling and educating the patient/family/caregiver
  • Ordering medications, tests, or procedures
  • Referring and communicating with other healthcare professionals
  • Documenting clinical information in the electronic or other health record
  • Independently interpreting results and communicating results to the patient/ family/caregiver

Personal Bio

Calvin Thornton is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). He earned his bachelor’s degree from Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, FL, and his master’s degree from the University of Southern Indiana. He provides mediation management for multiple conditions for patients aged 5-65.

Calvin believes in a collaborative approach to mental health care and works to create an environment where patients can feel comfortable and empowered to help develop goals and treatment plans. He does not provide therapy services, but strives to have a therapeutic approach.

He has been married for 17 years.  Calvin and his wife have a son at IU (Go Hoosiers!) and a daughter in middle school. In his free time, he enjoys exercising, games of all varieties, riding his motorcycle, and anything that induces adrenaline.
